Today, having a good education is the most important factor to be successful in life. Specifically, higher education is intended to give the young people necessary skills and qualifications to be successful in their professions. Learning new subjects and ideas is at the core of having a good education. The job of the teachers and professors is to aid the students in the process of learning. I can not think of an efficient education system without the help of professionals, i.e., the teachers. I think that it is very important and necessary to have a teacher while trying to learn new concepts.
The guidance of the teachers is very important during the learning process. First of all, we have to know what we need to learn. The teachers in high schools and professors at the universities are the ones who will guide us in the right direction when we begin to learn a new concept. We can consider calculus as an example. Without a math teacher, it will very difficult for us to know the importance of the limit concept in studying calculus. The teacher will introduce us this new concept and he or she will develop the other ideas in calculus in a systematic manner so that we can learn Calculus in the most efficient way. Without a teacher and a mentor we are in the dark and we may not even know in which direction we should proceed.
One of the most famous scientists of the 20th century, Albert Einstein, once said that “to know is to understand.” Maybe we can also say that to learn is to understand. In order to be able to understand a new concept we need someone to whom we can ask questions about the things that we have difficulty in understanding. With his or her years of experience, our teacher or our professor will answer our questions and it will be easier for us to learn the new concepts. If we try learn everything by ourselves we will have no one to ask any questions. This may be a big obstacle in learning a new concept.
I do not intend to underestimate one’s own hard work and effort in the education system. In fact, I do not believe in spoon-feeding the information to the students. The student also has to work himself to learn the new subjects and he or she has to try to implement them. But, the role of the teacher in education system is very important. Our teachers will help us to learn new ideas by guiding us and by answering our questions when we have difficulty in understanding. So, I can not think of a good education system without the guidance of the teachers. If one also spends the necessary effort to learn then there is no reason for him or her to fail in learning a new subject.
